Dragonball Z has been my favorite anime for nearly 26 years. I have watched every episode and movie. I also read the manga chapter that releases every month. With all of the characters, there are several attacks that I enjoy seeing during fights in the anime. So in this post, I will share 6 moves in Dragonball Z that fans love. Now let’s get started!

1. Destructo Disc

1. Destructo Disc on 6 Moves in Dragonball Z that fans love

Created by Krillin, it is one of the most powerful techniques in the first half of Dragonball Z. Krillin will concentrate his ki and form an energy disc above his head. When complete, he launches the disc at his opponent. I love this attack because it gave the Z fighters a fighting chance. When they fought opponents who were immensely stronger than them. It does not matter how powerful you are; prepare to be sliced and diced.

Krillin created the destructo disc early on in Dragonball Z to prepare for the arrival of the Saiyans Nappa and Vegeta. He first uses the technique on Nappa, who underestimated the attack. It was not until Vegeta advised him to dodge at the last second that Nappa obeyed. The disc was successful in slicing Nappa’s face.

Krillin’s best win with the Destructo Disc was saving Gohan from Frieza’s wrath. The disc surprised Frieza at the last second and sliced a piece of his tail off. The attack was so well-liked by many that Goku and Android 18 also learned the move. Both have used the technique in martial arts tournaments.

2. Special Beam Cannon

Piccolo created the Special Beam Cannon in hopes of defeating Goku. He’ll point his index and middle fingers to his forehead and begins charging ki. When finished, he will remove his fingers from his forehead and point toward his opponent. The blast consists of two beams, the first one traveling straight and the second one spiraling around the first one. You do not want to be on the receiving end of this blast.

We do not get this attack nearly as much as the Kamehameha, so it is always a special moment when we see it. Piccolo first uses this move on Raditz, whom Goku is holding down. The blast was powerful enough to pierce through the two Saiyans, killing them.

More recently, we got a proud father-son moment between Piccolo and Gohan. With Gohan in his newly acquired Beast mode, he used the special beam cannon to finish off Max Cell. This moment shows how much of an influence Piccolo had on Gohan. Seeing this moment on the big screen was a special moment, and I think many fans will agree that it is their favorite use of the attack.

3. Kaioken

3. Kaioken on 6 Moves in Dragonball Z that fans love

A move King Kai teaches Goku. The Kaioken is a power amplifier that enhances the body’s strength, speed, and endurance. The user becomes enshrouded in a red aura. Goku has used this move throughout his life to become stronger over time. The Kaioken is the perfect way for Goku to go up against much stronger opponents and still stand a chance against them.

The first time we see the Kaioken being used is against Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga, when Goku triples his power to be Vegeta’s equal. Frieza was a completely different story. A fighter 100 times stronger who put a beatdown on Goku while he was using 10x Kaioken. Even 20x Kaioken was not enough to take down Frieza.

Fortunately for Goku, Krillin’s death at the hands of Frieza was enough to push him over the edge. That’s when he found his Super Saiyan transformations and retired the Kaioken technique for quite some time. It was not until Dragonball Super that he reintroduced the move in combination with Super Saiyan Blue. Goku uses this combination regularly to take on powerful opponents like Hit, Goku Black, and Jiren. Regardless of the reason, I’m glad to see Goku use the technique once again.

4. Final Explosion

Vegeta will convert his life force into energy and begin charging up his ki. Once complete, he will unleash all of his charged ki in a massive explosion, greatly damaging all his opponents caught in it. This technique comes with a heavy price, as Vegeta dies after performing it.

Vegeta uses this move to take down the monster Majin Buu. To me, this attack displays the maturity of Vegeta as a man. The first time we meet Vegeta, he is a selfish, arrogant Saiyan prince. We see him slowly soften up after meeting Goku. He settles down with Bulma, and they start a family together. When the villain, Majin Buu, threatens the life Vegeta has made on Earth. He decides to take matters into his own hands and sacrifice himself to protect those he loves. These are signs of a true hero.

5. Spirit Bomb

5. Spirit Bomb on 6 Moves in Dragonball Z that fans love

Another technique that Goku picked up from King Kai. Unique to the Spirit Bomb, the user can use it in battle without any energy. To begin the spirit bomb, the user raises their hands to the heavens and asks all living things in the area to spare their energy. A more skilled user, like Goku, can gather energy from an entire planet.

One of the most famous moments of Goku using this attack is against Frieza when he realizes how powerful the tyrant is. The bomb did a ton of damage to Frieza and nearly killed him. An even more famous use of the spirit bomb would be against Kid Buu. Under Vegeta’s advice, Goku creates a Spirit Bomb using energy from the people of Earth. The attack was a great way to beat the final villain in Dragonball Z and say farewell to the anime.

The spirit bomb is an ironic trump card for Goku. He is the savior of Earth in the anime. But there are times when someone as powerful as himself needs to borrow energy from ordinary people to extinguish evil, showing how even strong people need help sometimes.

6. Kamehameha Wave

6. Kamehameha Wave on 6 Moves in Dragonball Z that fans love

The most famous move in Dragonball Z. It took Master Roshi 50 years to create the Kamehameha wave. But his student Goku learned it in seconds as a child, and it has been his signature energy blast ever since. Using the move in hundreds of fights. I will not go into every iconic moment the Kamehameha was used in the anime (that could be a book in itself).

But my favorite moment with the Kamehameha wave would have to be Gohan’s first time using the blast to defeat Super Perfect Cell. Goku joins his son and motivates him to go beyond his limit. The father-son duo destroyed the monster Cell once and for all. An iconic moment for Gohan using his dad’s signature blast to defeat an enemy that his father could not beat. A passing of the torch moment showed that Gohan was now the sole protector of Earth.
