I have been watching anime since I was 4 years old. It is something I live and breathe. The first two series I watched were Dragonball Z and Pokémon. I’ve known both of them for over 25 years. The best memories of my childhood were watching the Saturday night line-up on Toonami. Other popular series included Inyuasha, Medabots, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Studio Ghibli films. I also read manga at a young age because I did not want to wait for an episode to air.
As a university student, I rediscovered my love for anime after watching the film Wolf Children. Throughout my 20s, I have been watching different series and movies. I have a new appreciation for hand-drawn animation now that North America has completely switched to CGI. It fills me with pride and joy to know that people now have social media careers entirely focused on breaking down anime. This was something that I thought was impossible back when I was a kid.
